Getting Medical Treatment Right Away After An Accident

If Injured in an Accident, Seek Medical Treatment Right Away!

Medical TreatmentIf it’s a car accident, get treated by paramedics at the scene, and insist that they transport you to the nearest emergency room if you believe you may be injured. It it’s another type of accident, make sure that paramedics are called immediately. Insist on treatment at the scene and have them take you to an emergency room if necessary.

Documentation is Critical to Your Case

For legal purposes, injuries are documented by medical records. Aside from liability issues, they’re the most important aspect of a case. Lawyers and insurance companies rely heavily on those records. Quite simply, nobody will believe that somebody was injured in a certain way at a particular time and place if there aren’t any medical records memorializing the injury. That’s why in just about all personal injury cases, both sides will have full and complete access to all medical records. Those include both past and present medical records that are relevant and material. If the other side requests them, you will probably be required to produce them.

Paramedics will document evidence of injuries like cuts, bruises, abrasions and level of consciousness in their records. They will also document the injured person’s complaints of pain. All of those symptoms and complaints, and possibly other injuries will be documented again at the emergency room. Any treating physicians that the injured person sees will have their own medical records as will hospitals and therapists. An important paper trail evidencing injury and necessity of treatment is created with medical records. Diagnostic tests are also very important in documenting an injury. X-rays, CT scans, and MRI studies are all very convincing records because they show a judge and jury how serious your injuries are through a picture of the injury and the pain it produces.
