What Do You Need to Know About Pradaxa?

Personal injury attorneys Springer & Lyle are investigating claims on behalf of users who have suffered severe bleeding while taking the blood thinner, Pradaxa. It is alleged that the manufacturer of Pradaxa failed to appropriately warn patients and doctors that the drug lacks an antidote to reverse its anti-clotting effects, which puts patients who suffer even a minor trauma at a serious risk for irreversible and life-threatening bleeds.

The Problem With Pradaxa
Pradaxa or dabigatran, is known to pose a risk of excessive bleeding. In addition to reducing the risk of blood clots and stroke, it also inhibits the formation of good blood clots, which are needed for natural repair following an injury. Pradaxa lacks an agent that is essential for reversing its anti-clotting effects should the patient begin excessively bleeding while on the drug. Basically, if you are using Pradaxa and begin bleeding uncontrollably after an injury, such as a hemorrhage, cut, fall or car accident, it may be extremely difficult or even impossible to stop the bleeding. It is believed that those with kidney problems and/or the elderly may be at the highest risk of an uncontrollable bleed.

Complications of Pradaxa
The blood thinner drug Pradaxa has only been available for about two years, but during this time it has been linked to hundreds of deaths and  serious complications. External or internal injuries that your body would typically repair on its own can turn into a life-threatening situation. Pradaxa has been reported to cause several serious and potentially deadly complications, including:

  • Kidney bleeding
  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • Internal bleeding
  • Brain hemorrhaging
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
  • Heart attack

Because the pharmaceutical companies have an obligation to ensure adequate warnings are provided with their drugs, the manufacturers, in this case BoehringerIngelheim, may be responsible for compensating you or your loved ones for the injuries suffered as a result of using Pradaxa. Personal injury attorneys Springer & Lyle can assist you in determining if you are eligible for compensation of funeral expenses, medical bills and/or other damages that were suffered as a result of using Pradaxa.

If you or someone you care about has suffered serious injuries or death as a result of taking Pradaxa, contact personal injury attorney Springer & Lyle as soon as possible to discuss your case.
